Drainage Field Installation & Our Services
Legislation is now in place which requires discharge from Septic Tanks and Treatment Plants (if there is no alternative discharge system available) to be via a drainage field.

Existing septic tank systems
If the discharge runs to a soakaway – a drainage field should be installed. This is an issue that can be a problem when a property is purchased. We would recommend a pre-purchase survey that would identify the system in place.
A site visit and ground condition survey would need to be carried out to assess the suitability of the area , if the results are suitable a design and costing would be prepared.
On acceptance of the quote, our experienced team would install the scheme utilising our 30 years of experience in this industry. We can provide drainage field installation, with the skills and knowledge required to tackle every element of the project, from the initial planning, design and measurements to completing the work itself. Our expert team look forward to assisting you with your drain field installation.
What Is A Septic Drainage Field?
A system of interconnected pipework with drainage holes , normally 100mm diameter UPVC with a shingle bed and surround . This is wrapped in a geotextile to prevent soil ingress. This pipework is connected directly to the tank outfall. Local conditions will dictate levels and depths.
The rules around drainage fields
There are plenty of things to consider when it comes to installing a drainage field, including:
- Septic tanks can only discharge to the ground via a drainage field.
- Site tests are required to determine if your desired location has suitable soil conditions. Drainage fields may only be installed where this is found to be the case.
- Drainage fields must be a minimum of 10m from a watercourse, 15m from a building and 50m from a water abstraction point.
- Drainage fields must be sufficiently far enough away from any other soakaways so that the water capacity of the ground is not exceeded.
- Flood risk areas must be avoided.
- Drainage fields must not be installed in Environment Agency Groundwater Source Protection Zones, to prevent drinking water from becoming contaminated.
Our team have a clear understanding of all of the rules and regulations surrounding the installation of drainage fields.
